Talk:Linutop FAQ

From LinutopWiki

Critical technical info is buried on the Order page -- way too late -- potential buyers will likely be lost.

Is this correct?

280 euros for one, 2100 for a pack of eight.

About $300. USD plus shipping?

CPU, RAM, etc. data is inexplicably on the Order page.

Please move that to the FAQ!

Using a hard drive

Could you add an easy guide on how to use the linutop with a harddrive? It should be something like:

  • boot the linutop
  • plug in a usb hard drive
  • format the drive with the command ...
  • copy the contents of the usb stick to the hard drive with the command ...
  • add a boot sector to the hard drive with ...
  • adjust the linux configuration on the hard drive to make it working standalone with ...
  • shutdown and remove usb stick
  • boot

Thanks! (User:Henrik)

Boot problems

Is there a way of forcing boot from the memory stick? If I have both a hard drive and memory stick connected while turning on the linutop, it tries to boot from the hard drive. (User:Henrik)

=> this is something handled by the Linutop BIOS, which is not configurable. Is there a partition on your hard drive labeled "boot"? If so, you can try to remove this flag (using gparted on the linutop for instance). It might help. (User:Gpocentek)

<= I just checked, the partition isn't marked with boot. This is a major drawback for me, I planned using this box as a NAS server. Is it maybe possible to have a boot record on the extra disk(s) that points back to the primary boot disk? (User:Henrik)

Persistent configuration

I modified /etc/network/interfaces, but this was overwritten on next boot. Is there a way of making the configuration persistent? (User:Henrik)

=> This is not possible for the moment, but a new version of the OS will be available soon, with a documentation about who you can update your usb key. (User:Gpocentek)
