Indeed the boot order is a problem. That's something that we'll try to get fixed in the next version of the hardware. Unforunately we can't do much for now.
About the clock, you can just install 'ntpdate', not necessarily an ntp daemon, and run 'ntpdate ntp.ubuntu.com' (for instance) during the boot. That's what is done on the Linutop OS.
